How your security device works

Your HSBC Security Device is designed to make sure that only you can access your information. It is protected by a PIN of your choice, which you'll need to enter every time you use your device.

Choose and set up a memorable PIN

Please follow the instructions below to set up your PIN.
1. Turn on your device by holding down the green buttonfor a couple of seconds.
2. Think of a four to eight digit PIN and enter it into your device. Press the yellow button
3. Confirm your new PIN by reentering it into your device.
4. You should now see HSBC on your device.

A quick guide to using your device

Here are some brief instructions for how you'll use your device as part of your internet banking service. Whenever you need to generate and enter on of the following codes, you'll be given step-by-step instructions on screen.

Green Button: Logon

Whenever you log on to Private Banking from your desktop, you'll be asked to generate a security code.To do this, you turn your device on by holding the green buttonand entering your PIN, then you press the green buttonagain to generate a 6-digit security code which you enter online.

Yellow Button: Pay a new or untrusted Beneficiary

To make a payment to a new or untrusted beneficiary, you will need to generate an authorisation code specific to that beneficiary and amount. Press the green buttonto turn on your device and enter your PIN. Once HSBC is displayed, press the yellow button. Enter the last four digits of the account number you are paying followed by the full payment amount without any decimal point. Press the yellow buttonagain. A security code will be displayed, enter this online.

Number 3 Button: User management

To add new users to your internet banking, you'll need to generate a confirmation code.To do this, you turn your device on by holding the green buttonand entering your PIN, then you press the '3' buttonto generate a 6-digit confirmation code which you enter online.
Please note, these buttons should be only used for the functions described above. If you're asked to either on-screen or over the phone to use this buttons for anything else, please ignore the request and contact us immediately. It may be that a fraudster is trying to access your accounts.
